Anne Olde Kalter runs her own atelier for handmade design for a steady 7 years now. She started out with Studio La Farme and is now ready for a new way of presenting herself. “My work and my life is always connected, what I make is part of what I am. I felt the need to start over and reinvent myself after 7 years. Next to working for clients I also want to focus more on making art. So it is time to start using my own name.
I started working for myself when I felt limited in my creative advertising job. I missed doing what I love most; create with my hands, draw, paint or work with ink or clay. I was coming up with big concepts for big international clients which was cool, but missed the direct contact and the hands on creating part. I was spending to much time behind a screen and I wanted that to change. Remember when you were a kid and someone asked you what you wanted to be? I am sure your answer wasn’t ‘Whatever I do, I want to sit behind a computer. All day, every day.’, but think about it; that is what most of us do. From bankers to designers. That was what I did. That’s why I loved the idea of running a agency / farm. Where everyone has to get their hands dirty and do a little farm work next to their regular job. This would also mean that next to your paycheck you get a piece of the harvest. That is how La Farme was born.
In the seven years following we actually moved to the countryside and I created things by hand as much as I can, fell in love with letterpress printing, made a million logo’s, well almost 😉 and tons off illustrations, had a baby, planted an apple tree, lived in Bali for a while and spent most of my time being a generally lucky girl living and working in one of the cutest villages in the Netherlands. We live very close (cycle distance) to Amsterdam but also surrounded by nature, which happens to be my biggest source of inspiration! Peace to that.
Now it’s time to get back to work. Feel free to contact me with questions or inquiries any time! I would be happy to help.
