Sometimes you just need to set your mind on something and then it just happens. Or ask the universe or just believe in it so hard it just has to happen. This is exactly how we got to live in Bali for two months this last winter. We were inspired by friends of us that take such a break each winter. And when we decided we wanted to do the same we wrote our wish (with marker, you got to go BIG) on a (BIG) piece of paper and that somehow helped. Our minds became set when writing down our wish. And on the 1st of February we (D, the 15 month old baby and I) got on a 18 hours flight to the sunny island of gods. Well that’s what we had in mind at least. The first day it rained so hard and the place we rented was so dirty (unlike the pictures on Booking.com) we actually thought of flying on to Australia and spend the rest of our time there. But then came the next day and the sun and a better place to stay and we stayed. Of course, cause Bali is well a special place. Although it feels like it’s getting more busy, there are still so many beautiful quiet places and also so many fun busy places. The restaurants are just …, driving your rental scooter through the rice fields …, swimming everyday …. and trees like these:
I actually did a couple of assignments there, like the one for Rinze de Makelaar and worked a few days a week at this great and inspiring co-working space called Dojo. We found a drop-inn daycare for the little one and made some new friends. So it worked. We passed the vacation stage and really sort of lived there.
Mister D actually went skating quite a lot in Bali. That is not him by the way. He prefers to skate with his blouse closed sadly. But it was really cool to see him skate in that pool.
So all together, it was a great idea. Might have to go back next year. Just might need to get that big marker out again soon…
